Chasing Ephemera_Cloud Meditations

Infinity is unknowable but available to see daily. Just look up. Contemplate the vast space rising above us, day or night. The sky; real, mysterious, infinite. Humans have looked to the sky in all cultures and times with marvel and awe. Projecting a range of emotions and thoughts of the spiritual and the afterlife.

Clouds and stars are the forms that populate the limitless space of the sky. Clouds come from the simplest phenomena, water vapor and dust but evoke deep feelings and sensations. They are ephemeral yet real; quotidian and divine. They are fascinating. The first thing I do in the morning is look at the sky. My artistic process is eclectic. Some of these paintings are memories from that daily ritual. Others are from times of intensively looking skyward. Some are from photos, and some are plein air works. All are meditations on the sky.

They are done in a variety of painting materials. Oil on wood and canvas, watercolor and gouache on paper and wood. The oils are lush and painterly. The watercolors and gouache are light and airy. Many of these paintings are quiet and contemplative; peaceful, healing, and meditative. Something needed in this time. Others are dramatic and all are filled with movement. In all they cover a full range of emotions.
